Even though Marcelle enjoys documenting the intricate details in her work, she also likes rendering the painted surface in an expressionistic manner. At close range these compositions celebrate abstraction while from a distance their overall composition changes to the lush energy of tropical flora.

Large-scale, realistically inspired, distillations of tropical landscapes” describes my paintings. Categorically considered photorealism, I prefer to push my work beyond formal structure into expressionism created by a more freely executed and emotional application. Referring to the perceptual world, intricate details are documented while the painting surface is rendered expressionistically

Having studied and drawn the two-dimensional figure for most of his life, Grant Strawcutter, always knew that the 3-D aspect of sculpting was his greatest strength. He sees the human figure is an endlessly varying subject. He knows that within the complexity of the human form there are similarities but it is within the differences that make us most unique. Grant is inspired by the diversity of the human physique at rest and in motion, in aging and in youth.

When beginning a clay portrait, Grant enjoys getting acquainted with the subject. His intention is to capture a portion of the subject’s unique personality and not merely a likeness for a successful portrait. For Grant the challenge lies in, “capturing the changing body landscape of what I see and experience; not just what I know.”
In his previous career Grant served as co-founder and design director for a company known today as Soft Play Inc., the world leader in playground innovation. In 1991 Grant and his partner were awarded the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year Award. SPI allowed Grant the opportunity to travel throughout the United States, as well as much of Europe and Asia. Grant decided to sell SPI in 1996 to pursue his dream full time of being an artist. Grant left his Charlotte, NC home and moved to London where he was inspired by some of the most incredible art in the world. He was able to spend time in the best museums in Europe absorbing the works of the great masters. Grant has settled in the warm climate of South Florida but still travels the globe when not at work in his studio.

Grant has had the opportunity to observe and study under some of today’s best contemporary masters such as Tony Ryder (2002), Nilda Comas (2006&07), Paul Lucchesi (2006), Eugene Daub (2004&05), Peter Rubino (2004&05), and Richard MacDonald (2005&07). In addition, Grant was awarded his Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from the University of North Carolina (1979).

The project plays with mystical objects and characters, giving way to the imagination to justify the subtle, yet ironic, coincidence union of the two. Josafat does not limit his work to strictly the use of canvas, in fact he works on wood, aluminum, paper, cardboard as well. Mirandas work begins with the basic principle of drawing with extreme precision and detail then incorporating different materials such as graphite, silver/gold-leaf, acrylic, and the ancient technique of encaustic work. His installations are a replica of many of his paintings and give a feeling of movement and performance to his work. Josafat is a Mexican Artist now residing in South Florida.

Ignacio Font was born of Cuban parents on the island of Puerto Rico, where he began his search as an artist. As a child, Ignacio always felt an outsider, not belonging to his family, neighborhood or school. At the age of 10, he visited New York with his family and he felt a warm embrace when in front of a Jackson Pollock painting. A year later his family moved to Miami from Puerto Rico and the disjointed feeling he always had became an even greater contrast to the warm embrace of the Pollock painting. This disjointed feeling coupled with the warm embrace, are the driving forces in his works.

In earlier works, his lack of cohesion with individuals and his surroundings had won over the search for a place and feeling of belonging. With time the artworks became places of acceptance, comfort and belonging. Ignacio addresses issues of what is perceived as beautiful, our inability to focus, faith and its effects, fear, misunderstanding, residue, human frailty and the value of life. At times his work is an acceptance of the beauty of arts/crafts and dreams from his childhood, an affirmation of the nagging questions regarding the self-worth of any human being, including himself.

Ignacio is taking on his personal affirmations of meditation, communication, personal growth and focus as well as his personal challenges and constant battles with time constraints, work, and clarity of communication. Ignacio has spent years finding and making images of imaginative yet familiar places full of unconditional acceptance, comfort and belonging. Ignacio finally found this place within himself, a spiritual place of meditation and mark making. His search for places to call home led him to understanding that home is within us all; instead of a location it is an experience, a meditation and/or a prayer. The importance of the self and what the self experiences, has to take priority over the external issues. With this ideal in mind Ignacio embraces an exploration into the meditative practice of mark making and communication, emerging in the creation of a mantra drawn from personal experiences. Ignacio’s search for a place has become an archeological dig within himself, emphasizing meditative experiences based on his own personal past with mark making and his need to find a spiritual center.
The only commonality was in the actual pressing of the plants. An artist strives to gain control over his/her medium and the seaweeds were filled with problems at every step. But there was always an inspiration that kept us going - that would not let us quit, and it was this “inspiration” that allowed us to move forward, now using the seaweeds as a medium for design. In the design world Art Nouveau is often characterized as being inspired by flowing and undulating plant forms. Architects, and artists such as Gusta Klimt followed this path a hundred years ago. We think it is important today, in this time to re-establish a working relationship with nature and we as artists are truly inspired by the flowing shapes and bold forms that the seaweeds supply. Wherever we go and no matter how far from the ocean, people on their travels are receptive to our seaweed designs. It is this universal acceptance that has allowed us to grow and continue to pursue this unique medium.

With little formal training, painting has been my most effective means of expressing my creative side. I started painting in my adolescent years and have explored a couple different styles before developing the current one.

My present work is my most satisfying to date. It represents my liberation from the structure of methodical painting. It is spontaneous, passionate and energetic. I sketch and paint intuitively; I approach the blank canvas and invoke it with images created with gestural strokes of sketching, textural and painting materials. The initial stage is rather quick, as I progress, I add detail to create the finished piece. I usually paint with my canvas laying flat on the floor, a more natural position to me than the traditional easel painting. Music plays a key role in my creative experience, it expedites the natural flow of thoughts from my mind to the canvas. All these elements add a different dimension to the primitive but refined images I create.

I am constantly evolving as an artist, I achieve great pleasure in doing what I do. It plays an integral part of how I see and understand the world we live in. I hope that I can share a part of my vision and inspire others who experience my work to feel what I feel and more.

He traces his artistic talent back to his early childhood, but it was a four year stay on the island of Crete, Greece that convinced him to pursue his talents as an artist. His contemporary interpretations of personal and social issues portray a very personal look into his thoughts and ideas. He enjoys rendering the human condition in all its facets, good and bad, as a way to better understand the world around him. His work is often viewed as whimsical and engaging; provocative and intense. Whether it is social issues or very real life experiences, everyone who has observed his work has expressed how extraordinary it is. His approach to each piece is as unique as the image itself. He has won recognition for his work and has collectors in the US and abroad. David is a member of the South Florida Artists Association. David signs his artistic works D’Alan.
